Abstract: Epidemiological data indicate that cardiovascular complications plague nearly half of patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and are the leading cause of death in RA patients. This may be related to the fact that RA shares similar pathological features with atherosclerosis, leading to an increased incidence of atherosclerosis in patients with this disease. As a double-edged sword, neutrophil extracellular trap(NET)can both capture pathogens to control disease development and be a pathogen to aggravate the disease. The mediated inflammatory response is the common feature of RA,atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and other diseases. It has been verified that traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has posi-tive effect on atherosclerosis through a variety of ways, and relevant TCM has achieved satisfactory results in the treatment of RA by regulating the NETs.In this regard, the author proposed that TCM might alleviate RA complicated with atherosclerosis by interfering with the NETs.
